Hunt Mode

Flick through.
It buzzes.

Point your phone at a box of comics and flick through. Mint Menace buzzes the moment it spots a key issue, a comic missing from one of your runs, a character just announced for film or TV, or one you already own. No photos, no typing, no signal needed. It's made for comic marts, back-issue bins and that box in the loft.

Eight comics.
Four buzzes.

Scroll, and the box flicks through, one comic at a time. Four of these eight make the phone buzz. The other four it recognises and leaves in peace.

Last hunt

  • KEY ISSUE!

A first appearance, a first origin or a first death, with the reason and its source on the card.

  • WANTED!

A comic missing from one of your runs. It knows your runs because it knows your collection.

  • ON SCREEN!

A character who first appeared in this comic has been announced for a film or a TV series.

  • GOT IT

Already in My Comics. Saves buying the same book twice at a mart.

Only comics it is sure of are flagged; the rest go by without a word. Hunt Mode needs iOS 16 and an iPhone XS or later.

In this example box of eight invented comics, four make the phone buzz: Tales from the Spinner Rack No. 1 (Key issue: First appearance of the Mint Menace); Moonshot Monthly No. 3 (On screen: Nova Pike: announced for a TV series); Tales from the Spinner Rack No. 7 (Wanted: Missing from your Spinner Rack run); Albion Weekly No. 412 (Got it: Already in My Comics).

How it hunts

Only when it is sure.

Hunt Mode watches the live camera for barcodes and the printed words on each cover as they pass. It flags a comic only when it has identified it for sure, so a buzz is worth stopping for. Covers it cannot be sure of go by without a word, and you can scan them properly afterwards.

Every hit stays in the list when you finish: what it saw, what it flagged, and one tap to add any of them to My Comics.

Where it earns its keep

Marts, bins and lofts.

  • The back-issue bin. Flick through a long box of bagged books in the time it takes to read one price sticker. Gaps in your runs jump out.
  • The comic mart. No signal under a marquee, no problem: the catalogue is on the phone.
  • The box in the loft. The keys announce themselves. The rest can wait for a proper scan, or a cup of tea.
