It stays on your phone.
This page says what Mint Menace does with your data, in plain English. The short version: there is no account, covers are read on your phone and never uploaded, your collection and scan history stay on the phone, nothing is shared unless you export it, and this website sets no cookies.
Who we are
Mint Menace is made by Stephen Pollard in the United Kingdom. For anything about your data, email hello@mintmenace.com.
No account
The app has no accounts. You do not give it a name, an email address or anything else about yourself, and it does not identify you to us.
Covers, your collection and your scan history
When you scan a comic, the picture is read on your phone. It is not uploaded to us or to anyone else, and we never see it. The comics you add to My Comics, with their photos, your grades, prices, signatures, ratings and notes, and the history of what you have scanned, are stored on your phone and nowhere else. Nothing is shared unless you export it, and an export goes only where you send it. Deleting the app deletes all of it.
Hunt Mode
Hunt Mode reads the live camera on the phone to recognise comics as they pass. No photos are taken or stored, and nothing from the camera leaves the phone. The comics it recognises are listed on the phone until you clear them, and only the ones you choose to add go into My Comics.
Screen Alert and the signing lists
The list of film and TV projects, and the convention guest lists, travel to your phone with the catalogue. The app compares them with your collection on the phone. Your collection is not sent anywhere to be checked, and no server learns what you own, which alerts you have had, or which conventions you looked at.
What the app sends
The app checks Expo's update service (Expo, United States) for new versions of the app and its catalogue. The check carries the app version, the phone's platform and a random number created when the app is installed, so Expo can count how many phones use the app. It is not linked to your name, your email or your comics. There is no analytics and no crash reporting in the app. The eBay link opens eBay only when you tap it.
The eBay link
The "recent eBay UK sales" link on a card opens eBay in your browser with a search for that issue. From that point you are on eBay, under eBay's privacy policy. The app sends eBay nothing about you; the search terms are the comic's title and number, and "signed" when you have marked it so.
This website
This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics. The server that delivers it keeps no access log for this site. If that changes, or if cookie-free analytics is ever added, this section will say so and say what is kept or measured. The strip reader, the demonstrations and the example spreadsheet run entirely in your browser and record nothing. The colour scheme and motion switches remember your choice in your browser's own storage, on your device, and nothing about it is sent anywhere.
Emails you send us
Email sent to hello@mintmenace.com is delivered through Google Workspace (Google, United States), which holds our mailbox under its own terms. We read it to reply to you and keep it only as long as the conversation needs. Ask us and we will delete it.
The beta list
If you join the beta, your email address is held by Buttondown (United States), the service that sends our emails, under its own terms. We use it only to send you emails about Mint Menace. You confirm your address by clicking a link in the first email, every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time. Our lawful basis for holding it is your consent.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us to:
- tell you what we hold about you, and give you a copy;
- correct it;
- erase it;
- stop using it, or restrict how we use it.
For the app itself that will usually be nothing, because it holds your data on your phone and not with us. For the beta list it is your email address. Email hello@mintmenace.com and we will act on it within one month, which is the legal maximum. If you are not happy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Mint Menace is not aimed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If any of this changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves.
